BlackBoiler was founded in 2015 by attorney Dan Broderick and software engineer Jonathan Herr as the first company to automate contract redlining with AI. The company received early funding from the National Science Foundation in 2018 and holds multiple US and international patents for its method of suggesting revisions to electronic documents.

BlackBoiler does not replace lawyers — it amplifies them, automating repetitive redlining so legal teams can focus on higher-value negotiation and risk work.
